Victoria Mary Lee-Ramirez

Victoria Mary Lee-Ramirez

–Atascadero resident Victoria Mary Lee-Ramirez, 71, passed away at home surrounded by her family. She was born on March 16, 1945 to Antonio and Victoria Gutierrez in Selma, Ca. She was the fourth of five girls; raised to be a hard worker out in the fields, orchards and vineyards of the valley, and loved being outside throughout her life. She graduated from Selma High School in 1963 where she met her one and only true love, Randolph P. Lee. They married Sept 3, 1966 and started a family in Grover Beach in 1969. She enjoyed working in retail, but her focus and calling was to be a mother.

The family moved to Atascadero where she has been a member of St. Williams Catholic Church since 1979. Besides being a devoted mother and housewife, she also volunteered lots of time with various organizations within the church, hospice and community. She was a very compassionate person who loved people. There was always room for one more person at the dinner table, or an extra room for someone who needed a place to stay. She was selfless, and put the needs of others before her own.

She was an avid reader, and passed on the love of reading to others. She also loved music, traveling, and camping. Her world fell apart when she lost her husband to metastatic melanoma in 1995, but she relied on her faith to get her through. She later met and married Frank Ramirez, a widower who had lost his wife to cancer, and she moved to Campbell, Ca. to begin a new life with him. During that time, she loved his children and grandchildren as if they were her own. The two families merged well, and enjoyed spending time together whenever possible.

She stayed busy being involved with St. Lucy’s Catholic Church; all the while maintaining the home and watching the grandchildren while their parents were at work. She loved to landscape and garden, and she had quite a green thumb; she could nurture anything back to life. She loved decorating and having a full house, especially during the holidays.

Once again, it was her faith, which helped her cope when she also lost Frank to cancer, just before their tenth anniversary. She moved back into the family home in Atascadero, and continued traveling. The five sisters planned many trips and getaways together, and she loved their adventures. She traveled to Texas to visit her daughter and grandsons as often as possible. She made many trips to Utah to see her son and granddaughter. Her youngest son and two grandsons now reside in the family home.

She was so graceful with her battle with melanoma, always upbeat and positive. She was beautiful inside and out, and she was the embodiment of love. Jesus was the foundation of her love and dedication to her family. She frequently spoke of Psalms 27:14 “to wait on the Lord” during times of hardship.

She is survived by: her children Valerie, Russ and Ryan Lee and grandchildren; as well as: Victor, Paul and Jason Ramirez and families; and her sisters, who have been a great source of comfort and strength: Graviela Redondo, Nicolasa McCullar, Trini and Mercie Gutierrez and families.

–Brian Myracle, who loved making others laugh and loved his family above all else, passed away in Atascadero on June 18, 2016 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 63.

Myracle, of Atascadero, was born in 1953 to Glenn T. and Mabel Myracle, who provided Brian and his two sisters, Laurie and Toli, with an active and loving childhood. Brian, who was born in Orange but grew up in Santa Ana, was athletic and excelled in numerous sports, especially football, which he played from Pop Warner days through college. A 1971 graduate of Santa Ana’s Saddleback High, Brian attended Whittier College and later transferred to Oregon State on a football scholarship.

Celebration of life will be held July 21 at Paso Robles Golf Clubhow to write an obituary

–Nearing his 85th birthday, Paso Robles resident Doug Gilman died June 30, 2016. Born to Kathryn and Ralf Gilman in Glendale, CA, he was proud to be a third generation Californian, a decedent of the Bunker Hill family, and, most of all, proud to be an American. Gilman loved God and spoke to him everyday.

Devoted to his family and friends, Gilman was a true patriot serving in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He later served his country greatly as a civilian. Having had an exciting and distinguished career in aerospace, Gilman retired from Martin Marietta in 1993 as Manager of Security, Los Angeles Operations of Denver Space Company. Previous assignments included long-term duties at Vandenberg Air Force Base and Cape Canaveral, Florida. Following retirement he served as a consultant to the Dept. of the Air Force. His work was never an “open book” to anyone.

Gilman was a proud member of the Hoover High School 49ers in Glendale, Calif. He also attended Glendale City College and Pierce College in Canoga Park. Satisfaction of an Assoc. Degree was given him by the Marquardt Corp. Past employers include the California Air National Guard at Van Nuys airport, Nuclear Systems division of the Marquardt Corp, and Lockheed Missiles and Space Systems

The Gilmans found their way to Paso Robles 20 years ago, renewing almost lifetime friendships with the Culvers and Tacys and their families plus making many new friends. Gilman was an avid golfer, enjoyed sailing his Catalina, water skiing, hunting and fishing, snow skiing, tennis, and being Mr. Fixit. He loved the real music of his generation and airplanes, his sports cars, baseball, and of course Vic’s Cafe. Known always for his quick wit, terrible puns and jokes, he lived his life to the end with humor.

Gilman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean; daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Roy Howell of Shell Beach; grandson, Troy Howell, his wife, Lindsay, and their 11-month old, Bennie, of Morro Bay; grandson, Daniel Howell of Shell Beach and North Hollywood; sister, Grace Kathryn Wiswell, of San Marcos and her children, Kathryn Jean Sullivan, Paul Douglas Alvarez, and Krista Lynn Seavill; an aunt, Donna Bennett of Billings, MT, (widow of Uncle Rev. Ole Viborg dies at 84

ole-viborg

Service will be held Oct. 1ole-viborg

–Ole Viborg died peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016. Ole was born in the rural town of Dybe, Denmark on October 24, 1931 to Paul and Marie Viborg. He grew up on a small family farm milking dairy cows, feeding pigs and tending the farm a few miles from the North Sea. Ole survived a harsh WWII as a boy, and then set his sights on America. With just a small suitcase to his name he sailed into Ellis Island, New York. Ole worked hard to buy his first car and began working his way west, first to Solvang, California and then onto Paso Robles, where he met the love of his life Sandra Woodland at a Grange Hall Dance in Atascadero.

Ole and Sandy Viborg were married for 57 years, raised a family and lived here in Paso Robles for the remainder of his life. Ole’s work visa only allowed him to stay in the United States for a set period of time. He then had to leave the country for two years before he could become a US Citizen, which he did in 1963. Ole was extremely proud of becoming an American and always said the “Pledge of Allegiance” louder than anyone in the room. Ole lived the “American Dream” right down to the cowboy boots he wore every day.

In 1967 he started his paving business, Ole Viborg Inc., after learning the construction trade while living in Canada for the two years he was out of the country. Ole worked in the North County for almost 50 years. Hundreds, if not thousands, of driveways in our area bear his mark. The Viborg name is synonymous with the color of Caterpillar Yellow, which every piece of his equipment was painted. Ole had ventures in all areas of business. Ole was one of the founding Board Members of Heritage Oaks Bank, contributing greatly to its early success and the bank as we know it today. He also partnered with a few local Paso Robles residents, and they founded the “Saint Springs Bottle Water Company” in Saint Petersburg, Russia at the break out of the Soviet Union. This group partnered with the Russian Orthodox Church, and they produced millions of bottles of water before selling the company.

Our community was blessed by Ole’s spirit and generosity. There was not a community project in the Paso Robles area that he did not have his hands in, one way or another. He loved Paso Robles and always said that the town and people had been good to him, and he wanted to give back. His name will always be remembered as a pillar of our community both as a supporter and leader. Ole was a proud member of the Paso Robles Lions Club, receiving numerous Awards and Citations for his years of service. Ole was a long standing member of the Paso Robles Elks Lodge, The Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, and the Pioneer Day Marshal in 2014. Ole received the Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award, the highest award in the nation bestowed on a supporter and the BSA Silver Beaver Award. Ole was also a lifetime member of the Paso Robles Trail Riders, and was the Templeton 4th of July Parade Marshal. Ole and Sandy have been huge supporters of our local 4-H and FFA groups. Ole never missed a livestock auction, and helped put many kids through college with his purchases at the fair each year. Sandy and Ole were long time supporters of the North County Boys and Girls Club. Many people in our community will remember that TEF, Templeton Education Foundation, hosted their annual fundraiser, Denim & Diamonds, at the Viborg Ranch on El Pomar. At the height of TEF history, the event served over 1,200 dinners and was one the most memorable and talked about events of the year. Ole and Sandy were very gracious hosts and the schools in Templeton will always be grateful for their support.

Ole purchased the “Circle V” Ranch in San Ardo, located in Southern Monterey County in 1987. It was originally called the Paris Valley Ranch. He restored the old adobe house that was built in 1842, and the ranch hand bunk rooms on the site as well. He, Sandy and all of the Viborg Family enjoyed the ranch and its’ many amenities. Ole loved this ranch, and in the latter years of his life, spent many days checking the cattle water troughs and grading the ranch roads. Ole wanted to ensure that the ranch’s legacy would be kept for all to enjoy. This year, the ranch was highlighted in the Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce’s Ag Tour, and over 400 people were able to walk the ranch and enjoy its beauty and rich history.

Ole is survived by his wife Sandra Jean Viborg, son Paul and wife Debbie, grandchildren Daniika and Ole, and his daughter Katrina (Viborg) Davis and husband Scott, and grandchildren Karalena and Kassandra.

Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Paso Robles District Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Paso Robles Elks Lodge at Noon.

In lieu of flowers, the Viborg family asks that a donation be made to Ole’s latest project, the new Troop 60 Boy Scout House being built at 23rd St. and Oak St. in Paso Robles, or The North County Boys and Girls Club in Paso Robles.
