Jeanette Marie Silacci.

–It is with heavy heart that we say goodbye to our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Jeannette Marie Silacci. Jeannette was born in Watsonville, California to Frank and Louise Rodgers on August 23, 1946. Her courageous three year battle with cancer was lost on November 22, 2018 (fought with the utmost grace, strength and… on her own terms, with the help of her “go to guy” Padre Pio).

She loved being the baby of the family and grew up in the Salinas Valley. She loved horses, gardening, music, decorating, and the arts. She was incredibly creative and gifted at so many things and was always willing to share her many talents with others. She graduated from North Salinas High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Duane Hignel and was married until his passing in 1991. She worked at Swenson & Silacci flowers for thirty years. She was an incredible musician and had the voice of an angel.

In 1992, she met her current husband Kenneth Silacci and they relocated to Paso Robles, which she always referred to “as darn near paradise.” Ken and Jeannette enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Jeannette enjoyed singing with the Diocesan Choir and playing music for her parish. She dedicated her life work to helping raise awareness for the Respect Life family. She was devoted to her Faith and her family always!

She was preceded in death by her first husband Duane Hignel, oldest sister, Betty Fleming and step daughter Terri Silacci York. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Silacci, her daughter Nyla Padgett (Brian) of Paso Robles and son Matt Hignel. Her sisters Marlene Day and Darlene Inman, and brother Dick Rodgers. Extended family Karen Felice, Dave, Doug and Gary Silacci. Twenty one grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and Augie, her beloved golden retriever.

Viewing will be held Thursday, December 6th at 4:00pm, Rosary vigil at 5:00pm- Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home, 1703 Spring Street, Paso Robles, California. Funeral Mass is on Friday, December 7th at 10:00am St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 820 Creston Road, Paso Robles.

In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church or Rachel’s Vineyard, 225 Laverne Avenue, Clovis, CA 93611. Special thank you to Wilshire Hospice and her dedicated Prayer Warriors. Jeannette’s legacy will never be forgotten and will be carried on through generations to come.

–Lazaro Gutierrez Morones joined his wife Erminia Estrada Morones in heaven on November 26, 2018. Lazaro was 91 years old at the time of his passing at Annette’s Lodge in Paso Robles. Lazaro was born on December 14, 1926 in Safford, Arizona to Refugio and Josefa Morones. In April 1945 he was drafted into the army and stationed at Fort MacArthur where he worked in military transportation under the 36th Transportation Corps Service. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal before being honorably discharged on Nov. 4 1946.

Lazaro married his beloved Erminia on July 18, 1951 and together they lived a very full and prosperous life. Right after being discharged from the army Lazaro began a trucking business before transitioning into auto body repair and painting. While working in the auto body industry he began working in farm labor contracting on the side. With the guidance of Frances Nelson, Lazaro expanded his side business, earned his contracting license and turned Farm Labor Contracting into a full time career that shaped his and Erminia’s future.

In the mid 70s to 80’s Lazaro found great success as a farm labor contractor and worked for one of the largest wineries in the area, Estrella River Winery as their Foreman. Under his guidance blocks of grapes were planted that attracted professors from UC Davis, ultimately influencing their teaching methods and curriculum. Following his time at Estrella, Lazaro continued to develop his contracting business and made it a family affair by having Erminia oversee his payroll and often recruited some of his 9 children for assistance.

Throughout his time as a farm labor contractor, Lazaro had several high profile clients including Baseball Commissioner Peter Uberroth while he continued to assist many local winemakers including his good friend and future son- in- law, Tobin James. In 1987 Lazaro provided Tobin James with 6 tons of grapes, which the now well-known winemaker credits as one of the moments that helped launch Tobin James Cellars.

Lazaro’s expertise ranged well beyond grapes. From apples to almonds, walnuts to sugar beets, his wide range of knowledge and keen business sense afforded him the foresight to prosper in the agriculture industry all the while leaving a legacy of agricultural passion and knowledge to his co-workers, clients and family. His love and devotion for agriculture and his family will be greatly missed.

Lazaro was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Erminia Estrada Morones; parents; Refugio and Josefa Morones; son, Edward Morones; daughter, Diane Morones. He is survived by his three sons: Paul (Cheryl), Gene (Vicky) and Lazaro Morones; four daughters: Monica (Tim) Martin, Carolina (August) Harden, Ermie (Tobin) Morones, and Jennifer (Shawn) Morris; as well as 23 grand- children; and 24 great-grand- children.

A rosary service will be held Friday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. at St. Rose Church and viewing will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home in Paso Robles. A Funeral Mass will be held in honor of Lazaro at Mission San Miguel at 9 a.m. with a Celebration of Life following.

–Our beloved Patricia Ruth Dunn Osman, known to many as Patsy, was born in Sardinia, Ohio on December 14, 1925 and passed away peacefully on Dec. 10, 2018 in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the age of 92.

Pat was raised in Winchester, Ohio as the middle child and only daughter of Fred and Eva Dunn. Her determination to keep up with her brothers helped create her can-do attitude. A proud graduate of Winchester High School Class of 1943, she was a cheerleader and played on the women’s basketball team. She was also named Gold Medal Queen of 1941 and held dear the trophy she received.

She met William “Bill” Osman of Manchester, Ohio, at the tender age of 14 while dancing with her brothers at the Rose Lawn Tavern. WWII called him away for four years and upon his return, they were married on April 29th, 1945. Patsy worked to support them while Bill attended Cedarville College on the GI Bill. Upon graduation, they headed west and in 1954, settled in Paso Robles where she began her lifelong career as homemaker, mother to three girls and community volunteer extraordinaire.

As a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, she served as Sunday school teacher, church secretary, MYF leader, and many other leadership positions. Volunteering with Loaves and Fishes, she helped feed those in need and she is remembered by many for the delicious homemade cookies and candy she provided for the church social hour. Among close friends and family, her gift for baking earned her the title of Cookie Queen.

While her daughters were in school, she served as room mother and PTA President and, for her service and commitment, was awarded their highest honor – the PTA Life Achievement Award.

For many years, she was an active leader with Camp Fire Girls of America. Organizing bottle drives, bake and rummage sales were just some of her many fundraising activities. In addition, she was an active parent for a multitude of school activities including band boosters and cheer.

In her spare time, she was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing clothes and costumes for her daughters and their dolls. She also passed her love of flowers and gardening along to her daughters.

Once her daughters were in school, she returned to work at PR War Memorial Hospital as a billing clerk and eventually, Twin Cities Hospital, where she worked for many years and held several positions including business office manager.

Always the selfless advocate for others, her family came first and foremost. Throwing a party for a relative, helping care for the elderly – whether her own mother or one of her in-laws, and giving rides to someone who couldn’t drive were just a few of her many acts of thoughtfulness.

Pat was preceded in death by husband, William Osman; daughter, Patricia Osman-Osberg; parents, Fred and Eva Dunn and brothers, James and Paul Dunn.

She is survived by daughters Gretchen (Sal) Cardinale and Lisa (Butch) Platt; her grandchildren Nickolas (Fawn) Cardinale, Jessica (Michael) Doremus, Vanessa (Jeff) Buss, Ashley Osberg, Andrew Osberg, and her great-grandchildren Anastasia and Roman Doremus.

On Friday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m., a graveside dedication and interment will be held at the Paso Robles District Cemetery. The following day, Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m., a memorial service celebrating her life, will be held at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home in Paso Robles. Immediately following her service, a reception will be held from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the banquet room of La Bellasera Hotel in Paso Robles.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Paso Robles, 915 Creston Rd, Paso Robles, CA 93446 or call (805) 238-2006.

Martha Sandoval Jones

Martha Sandoval Jones.

–Martha Sandoval was born to Elias and Selina Sandoval on April 13, 1928 in Durango, Colorado, the third born in a family of eleven children. She began her call of mothering almost immediately. Her siblings call her their second mother.

Martha graduated high school and attended the Latin American Bible Institute in Ysleta, Texas. She was a devout Christian and was faithful to her church.

In 1952, her brother mentioned to a fellow soldier that his sister would enjoy getting letters from him. Allen Dale Jones began writing Martha. In the beginning of 1953, he came home on leave. They were married in San Jose, California, ten weeks later. Early in their marriage, they moved to Paradise, California and attended Paradise Assembly of God. In 1996, they moved to Paso Robles to live with their daughter Dorothy’s family. They then attended and served at The Revival Center of Paso Robles where their son-in-law, Bishop Gabriel Abdelaziz, pastors.

Martha is survived by their four children: Dorothy Ann Abdelaziz (Gabriel) of Paso Robles, Richard Allen Jones, Lawrence Dean Jones (Rebecca) of Frederick, Maryland, and Janice Lynne Jones of Paso Robles. She was the grandmother of eight and the absolutely adored great-grandmother of twenty-one. She is also survived by four sisters (Laura, Phyllis, Bella, Geneva) and two brothers (Orville, Lawrence).

Martha was a very accomplished seamstress and sewed for pleasure almost every day of her adult life until she suffered a stroke in 2013.

Martha loved babies. Dale and Martha were the foster parents of almost sixty newborns and children. When they stopped fostering, she continued to babysit children for working mothers. One mother poignantly thanked her for helping her raise her children. She taught the two and three-year-olds in her church’s Sunday School for over ten years. Even in the past few years, if there was a baby around, they would eventually make their way into her arms.
Most of the people around her felt her mothering in one way or another. Many have said she took care of them, helped them with motherly advice, and helped them out financially. Martha was a quiet soul who did not like the spotlight, but the impact she has left on all those who met her has been profound. We will all miss her.

Martha’s Celebration of Life will be held at The Revival Center Church, 3850 Ramada Dr., Paso Robles. Services will be on Jan 18 at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held 1 hr. prior to services.
