– Harold “Hal” Edward Holzinger was born on July 7, 1931, in San Luis Obispo, to Harold M. Holzinger and Lola Sweeney. He was the second of two children, following his sister, Donna. Hal went to school in San Luis Obispo and spent summers in Creston, with his grandparents, Edward and Augusta Holzinger. At San Luis Obispo High School, he enjoyed playing high school football and running a local radio station.
After high school, Hal joined the military and served as a Chief Warrant Offi cer from 1950 to 1991. Near the end of his military career, in 1989, as a Chief Warrant Offi ce Four, Hal was awarded the prestigious, Army Commendation Medal. He was recognized for his exceptional, meritorious service.
Hal was married to June Stover, of Arroyo Grande, and they had fi ve daughters. They raised their daughters in Orange County before moving back to their home county of San Luis Obispo. Over the past 3 decades, Hal spent his days on his cattle ranch in Creston. Hal enjoyed ranching, playing guitar, and spending time with family.
Hal passed away on December 27, 2024. He is remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
